1-800-Pack-Rat, LLC, is the fastest-growing portable storage and moving company with more than 50 company and franchise-owned territories nationwide. Rapid growth is expected to continue with commitments to expand to 83 locations by the end of 2008 and 130 locations by 2010.

1-800-PACK-RAT started with the idea of making storage and moving easier and simpler. It ended with a concept that is revolutionizing both of those industries.

In 2001, a North Carolina entrepreneur sketched out an all-steel weatherproof portable storage design that was jokingly referred to as a Pack Rat because of its ability to store everything. The founder then sought out one of the most experienced heavy-equipment manufacturers in the country. Together they built a system that can lift a fully-loaded (up to 8,500 pounds) PACK-RAT container without swaying or shifting and gently place it anywhere a truck can be driven. This state-of-the-art system was critical to creating 1-800-PACK-RAT - The simplest way to store or move your stuff.

The first three locations were built and developed in North Carolina between 2003 and 2005. In 2005, Bob Poirier, former executive at 1-800-Flowers and FTD, became the new President and CEO of 1-800-PACK-RAT and Joseph Grano, former United States CEO of UBS Paine Webber, became the first Chairman of the Board.

Under this new leadership, 1-800-PACK-RAT grew from three locations to 50 within two years. This extraordinary growth reflects the customer’s interest in finding simple and flexible solutions to stressful life events, such as moving, buying and selling a home, downsizing, and renovating.

Consumers simply call 1-800-PACK-RAT to schedule the delivery of their PACK-RAT unit at their convenience. Customers can load their PACK-RAT unit at their leisure or we can provide loading and unloading services. Once the PACK-RAT unit is packed, customers can choose to store it at their location or have it moved to a new location. The PACK-RAT units can also be stored in our secure climate-controlled warehouses for as long as desired. As a result of its rapid growth, 1-800-PACK-RAT is now able to offer Long Distance Moving as an option to its customers.
